I thought Helen was very engaging and knowledgeable about the course topic. She also gave a very human approach to the training course and wasn't worried to show emotion which is actually quite rare. I felt this allowed everyone else to feel relaxed to share their experiences and really gain as much from the course as possible.

Helen made it clear from the start of the course that due to the nature of the topic, there was no pressure to discuss anything we did not feel comfortable with. Throughout there were regular check ins on everyone participating to make sure we were following the discussion and that we were okay with what was being talked about. The information itself was very educating and eye opening. The course was engaging and Helen herself was just amazing. I think I speak for the whole group when I say a massive thank you to Helen for her time and knowledge

Helen was very patient with going through the various aspects of the course. The course itself had information that was rather surprising for myself, but at the same time, it was good to be made aware of the information. The tips and tools provided were easy to understand and I can see their potential and that they will be useful when dealing with difficult cases in the future.

As I had volunteered with the Samaritans, I noticed a lot of overlap in some of the approaches and explanations around 'listening' that were discussed in the training material. However, it was still useful to have diagrams such as the circle of control and the emotion wheel to help visualise some of the concepts. The engagement was good; I think that it can be a difficult subject to get people to speak openly about, and getting us us to fill in some blanks on our own worksheets may be a small thing but does encourage you to think a bit more deeply than if it is just being explained/lectured to you. Splitting off into groups was useful for this purpose as well, and gave us the opportunity to hear about our colleagues experiences (personal or professional) with the subjects of suicide and grief.

It was very helpful to understand passengers and to now think differently. If a customer seems rude or angry they could just be nervous so it helps with how to deal with more difficult calls. There were a few things that were suggested which just isn't possible in our role but still good to be mindful of it for future.

It was interesting as have a better understanding on different types of vulnerable customers and help to understand their needs as each customer are different.
