I really learnt a lot and enjoyed the course. It was well paced, information was not overwhelming and it was helpful to be able to discuss the topics as we went. I feel more confident having conversations with clients who are in distress, and feel more capable of considering risk factors and knowing what to say. I thought your facilitation of the course was outstanding, you create an open and psychologically safe space from the very start. I took a lot from the course; one thing that stood out that I have mentioned in countless conversations with colleagues is the point around the fight or flight response when first engaging with a customer that is feeling suicidal, and how it is normal for a colleague to be unsure of what to say initially to open the conversation and support the customer. I really like your take on this that it is okay to feel this way and I have shared your practical suggestions for how to overcome this using statements such as ‘I don’t have the answers, but I’m just glad you told me, and I am here to listen to you and support in anyway I can’ Thank you again for delivering such a productive and meaningful session. Your passion and genuine care for the wellbeing of people comes across in abundance.
