The tutor / barrister was very good in a small discussion group and very happy to debate the issues the room wanted to debate - which makes for a good learning environment. I would have loved to have been on this course before finalising my EW report, as I think there are things I might have done slightly differently in that report and the joint statement had I done that. The most apparent learnings and benefits of the course though are in understanding and practicing how to best prepare and run the cross examination in court. I almost wonder whether the course should be split in that way ie 1. prep of the report / joint statement and things to think about, look out for, what will the barrister be looking for in the report to attack under cross examination etc... and 2. the cross examination itself. In my case those things are 6-7 months apart so that is a factor (but on day 2 we did the report as the last session and I thought maybe that should have been first?). An extremely helpful course though, and the mix in the room of restructuring and pensions was great.

I was expecting this course to be purely relevant to medical expert witness report writing. However, it was more general. It would be beneficial to deliver the course as two different courses, one for medical professionals only and the other for non-medical professions. This would help to go through examples and template reports with relevance to the profession.

Fay is clearly very knowledgeable. It is a lot to take on in one sitting. And she has worked very hard throughout the whole day. My feedback is positive. I would have preferred some type of power presentation to follow so that I can focus on what is being said then feel I need to jot down every section mentioned and often miss which paragraph is being referred to, maybe her also sharing her screen if there is no power point presentation as going between documents is not ideal. Following trainers voice alone is very hard to do for a full day. Especially when all of our brains are not suited to only one style of presentation (i.e. only talking). Another possibility is to be instructed at the beginning to open up the manual and the guidance. The section on opinions could have some case examples (regardless of the field in question). Especially how balance is evidenced in the opinion section and examples where there are a few opinions. Seeing that would be helpful or having it to look at later. If there was presentation slides there ready it would have cut down on trainer speaking and we could have more time for q and a and practise etc.
