Coursecheck Reviews Policy
Coursecheck helps people make informed decisions about training by collecting and publishing feedback from people who have participated in training courses and programmes.
When you read a review on Coursecheck, we want you to be confident that it reflects a genuine training experience.
The integrity of those reviews is important to us. This policy explains how Coursecheck reviews are collected and published, the standards we apply, and the steps we take to prevent and remove fake or misleading reviews.
1. Who can submit a Coursecheck review
Coursecheck is not an open review site. A person cannot simply visit the Coursecheck website, find a training provider and submit a review.
To provide feedback, a reviewer must have access to a Coursecheck survey link or QR code made available by the training provider.
Reviews may be submitted anonymously to the training provider but we do not publish anonymous reviews. Where reviews are published, only the first name and initial of the reviewers' surname are displayed.
2. How reviews are collected
Most Coursecheck feedback is collected on the spot at the end of the training course by making a QR code available to the whole group. For virtual training courses delivered using platforms such as MS Teams or Zoom, a survey link may be shared in the chat. In the unlikely event that feedback is not collected on the spot, survey links are emailed to learners after the end of a course.
Collecting feedback on the spot encourages broad participation and helps reduce the risk of providers selectively seeking reviews only from learners they expect to provide favourable feedback. It also results in high response rates, helping to reduce the selection bias that can arise when reviews come from only a small, self-selecting proportion of customers.
3. Which reviews are published
Coursecheck, not the training provider, controls the publication of reviews on Coursecheck.
Training providers cannot choose which eligible reviews are published on their public Coursecheck profile and cannot suppress a review because it is negative or critical. In other words, training providers can't publish the positive reviews and hide the negative ones.
Subject to our publication requirements, we publish reviews regardless of the rating or opinion expressed.
We do not publish anonymous reviews. We may also withhold or remove a review where it breaches our reviewer Terms and Conditions or this policy, including where content is unlawful, contains prohibited language, is demonstrably inaccurate or unfair, or where there are reasonable grounds to believe that the review is not genuine.
4. Fake reviews
Reviews must reflect the reviewer's genuine experience of the training concerned and comply with our Terms of Use for Reviewers.
A review must not:
- be submitted by someone who did not participate in the relevant training;
- misrepresent the reviewer's genuine experience;
- be written or submitted on behalf of another person;
- be submitted by a provider, trainer, employee or other person pretending to be a learner;
- be fabricated or arranged for the purpose of artificially increasing or decreasing a provider's rating;
- contain information that the reviewer knows to be false or misleading.
Training providers must not write, commission or arrange fake reviews.
5. Incentives and encouraging feedback
We recognise that achieving good response rates is important when collecting feedback, and providers may encourage learners to participate.
Providers may, for example, tell learners that everyone who provides feedback will be entered into a prize draw, provided entry is not conditional on giving a particular rating or expressing a particular opinion.
Providers may also use initiatives which do not personally reward the reviewer, such as making a charitable contribution when a particular level of participation is reached.
Providers must not offer or provide a guaranteed personal benefit, such as a voucher, gift or discount, in return for submitting a Coursecheck review.
Any incentive that is conditional on the content of a review is also prohibited. This includes making eligibility for a prize or other benefit conditional on giving a particular rating, providing favourable comments, or changing or withdrawing negative feedback.
6. Positive and negative reviews
We do not expect every Coursecheck review to be positive.
Genuine feedback reflects genuine experiences, and those experiences will sometimes include criticism or dissatisfaction. Critical and negative feedback is an important part of a credible review system.
A negative rating or critical comment is not, by itself, a reason for Coursecheck to regard a review as suspicious.
Our objective isn't to help providers achieve perfect ratings, but to present a fair picture of learners' experiences.
Training providers must not:
- selectively seek reviews only from learners they expect to be positive;
- discourage dissatisfied learners from leaving reviews;
- pressure a learner to change or withdraw a genuine negative review;
- seek removal of a review simply because they disagree with it.
Coursecheck applies the same publication standards to positive and negative reviews and training providers cannot choose which reviews appear on their public Coursecheck profile. Regardless of whether a comment is positive or negative, training providers can respond to comments and choose whether their responses should be displayed on their Coursecheck profile pages alongside the associated review.
7. Protecting the integrity of reviews
We use multiple safeguards to protect the integrity of reviews. These include:
- controlling access to Coursecheck surveys;
- requiring reviewers to identify themselves;
- not publishing anonymous reviews;
- technical measures designed to help prevent duplicate submissions;
- retaining control over which reviews are eligible for publication;
- applying the same publication standards to positive and negative reviews.
These safeguards are intended to make it difficult to submit reviews which do not represent genuine training experiences.
8. Reporting a review
If you believe that a review is fake, misleading or otherwise breaches this policy, you can use the Report Review option that’s displayed alongside each review, or email us at ReportReview@coursecheck.com.
Reporting a review does not automatically result in its removal. Training providers cannot remove reviews themselves. Coursecheck considers the information available and decides what action, if any, should be taken.
A review should not be reported merely because someone disagrees with the reviewer's opinion.
9. Investigating suspicious reviews
Where a review is reported to us, or we otherwise become aware of information suggesting that a review may not be genuine, we will investigate. In doing so, we will consider:
- the review itself and, where relevant, reviews from others attending the same event;
- information associated with the relevant survey or training activity;
- information associated with submission of the review;
- information supplied by the training provider;
- information supplied by the reviewer;
- any other relevant information reasonably available to us.
Depending on the outcome, we may:
- take no action;
- ask for further information;
- temporarily hide a review while it is investigated;
- permanently remove a review that we reasonably believe is fake, misleading or otherwise in breach of our Terms of Use for Reviewers;
- correct ratings, review counts or other information affected by an invalid review;
- take further action where we identify deliberate or repeated attempts to manipulate Coursecheck reviews.
10. Review scores and other review information
Published ratings, review counts and other information derived from reviews are intended to provide a fair representation of the genuine reviews held by Coursecheck.
Training providers cannot choose which eligible reviews contribute to their published rating.
Where a review is removed because it is fake or otherwise invalid, Coursecheck adjusts ratings and review counts accordingly.
11. Keeping our safeguards under review
Coursecheck periodically reviews the risks associated with fake, misleading and improperly incentivised reviews and the effectiveness of the measures we use to protect the integrity of reviews.
We may change our procedures and update this policy as our service develops, risks change or applicable law and regulatory guidance are updated.
