Shian was our tutor for today’s session on the Suicide First Aid training we had for our work place today. I really appreciate her approach, her focus and her drive to give people the tools to help us handle these difficult topics. I feel she handled this with care and made the day as nice as it could possibly be. The main take aways I got from this session is that it is so important we recognise these feelings people may have and deal with them with care and confidence. Thank you so much for taking the time Shian to educate us on such an important topic. Keep spreading the word and making a difference!

This course is very useful and important. The main thing I learnt was to really listen and not come up with a plan or cut the person off. I really found the video useful of how the agent handled the call.

I feel like this course has provided some great insight into suicide prevention and the importance of taking action and offering support for those having suicidal thoughts. One of my key takeaways from this is how to approach the conversation with someone who may be feeling suicidal. I feel I am more comfortable with being able to ask direct questions whilst still being empathetic to ensure I am able to support appropriately.

The session today was engaging and a steady pace. There was worry there that it might be upsetting however it was great to walk away and be empowered by how to help others who may be suicidal.
