The witness exercise was a very good interactive session. The trainer was very good, clearly knowledgeable and effective in communicating her knowledge. The content of the course on report writing was maybe restrictive, given it wasn't bespoke, given its reliance on structure which wasn't as much of a development area as maybe understanding any tips the trainer had on setting out disputed and undisputed facts and the follow through to analysis and conclusions from this process.

I felt there is a big difference in the type of witness statement we wrote and the type we will be expected to write in our role. The type of witness statement is closer to an officer on the scene, or a civillian statement, where timings, descriptions, colours, movements and ADVOKATE are important. We will be writing statements/reports based off of large amounts of data, therefore I dont feel this statement was particularly useful. In most witness statements I have tried not to make assertations (i.e. what appeared to be the same vehicle, not "the same vehicle"), however it feels in analytical products we are actively trying to make those assertations (i.e. the device followed this route because it was being carried by the suspect). I would appreciate advice on how best to make those assertations without leaving myself open to questioning.

Really informative day, its taken a rather challenging task and broke it down to manageable sections.

Excellent session- a very different approach focussing on approaching safeguarding from a person-focused perspective rather than legislation/guidance. The legal frameworks clearly relate, but the message was all about the individual primarily- supported by legality/guidance. The messages were equally translatable to other quality elements/standards- start the conversation at the top with the principles (what why) and then lead to the operational (when how). Would like to understand corporate parenting a bit more.
