I found the course very useful given that it is a huge subject. A lot was covered in two days and the take home materials provide plenty of additional background. I felt there was an emphasis on attitudes to mental health and getting delegates to empathise with those affected, and would have liked more practical content in terms of recognition, action and formulating plans to ensure the colleague receives continued support. This could have extended to strategies for the workplace. The two EEs of ALGEE seem to be repetitive, perhaps it should be ALGEP with P standing for Plan.

- Instructor seemed flustered and kept repeating that she is not necessarily an expert in the subjects covered, which made me feel unsure; however she was very friendly, invited questions and we had a comfortable, informal atmosphere - video content of the course was excellent, loved the example scenes and how the actors were very believable - "nuggets" film was great to understand substance abuse pitfalls - exercises were okay, but repetitive and generic: phrases like listen unjudgmentally kept being repeated, with no real direction how to phrase questions or comments in concrete situations (e.g. ALGEE discussions were repetitive as well, i.e. "find a safe, quiet, private space for the discussion" which is important but non-specific) - lacked the element of role play: in any given scenario, the young person in question could react in a variety of different ways: as a group, it would have been helpful to act out that scenario in person with different prompts --> this would lead to greater level of confidence in applying the content - repetition: the slides used by the presenter largely repeated what we learned on the course, which was tiring and time-consuming

Great course, with a good presenter. Rather than just learning the slides we were able to take the time to explore the topics around the course and bring in real life scenarios. Potentially course needs to be spaced out as felt a little rushed towards the end.

Only improvement that would have been beneficial but not a critisim of the course was that figures were Australian and would of been good to see Uk figures on mental health and videos. Clearly were not as up to date this country

I have a lot of experience in this field so a lot of the content was a good refresher.

Very positive thought provoking course. I am a good listener but this course has given confidence to be a mental health first aider.
