Mental Health First Aid Wales Reviews

We didn't quite complete all the tasks because we were a chatty bunch, but I do think the course content was fantastic and could even have been delivered over 3 days which would have let us complete everything. We had an incident recently where someone in our workplace made a disclosure and what was reassuring after taking the course was that everything we did was essentially what we learned on the course - we implemented ALGEE without knowing it! But I feel far better equipped now to deal with any potential incidents arising, and feel really reassured that Steve also said if we wanted to reach out for further guidance that we can. Really well delivered, we were just too chatty!

Really useful and interesting course. I've really enjoyed both webinars and the online modules and feel that I have learned a lot and have found the course valuable. Michelle is a great teacher too and has an excellent ability to encourage communication within the group.

A very enjoyable and informative course which has given me more confidence when speaking to individuals who are living with mental health issues

I learnt a vast amount and feel I have a starting point of communication with whatever the young person attends with. I have bought the manual and will keep it with me at all times, it has already proved useful.

The course has been very informative, and the resources provided are very good, particularly the handbook. Andrew as an instructor is thorough and informative and created a welcoming and supportive learning environment. I now feel far better equipped to support colleagues in the work place and people I may encounter elsewhere, and also more able to support my own mental health long term.

It's still really difficult to remember what ALGEE stands for in its entirety as each letter stands for multiple things but overall I feel like the important stuff has really stuck with me, about asking directly if someone is suicidal and about what not to say. I felt that a lot of the webinar training repeated what was in the online training beforehand but often didn't add on or build on the material very much. It was good to have the training not only mention how to help students but general MHFA (such as the substance misuse material) so that I feel better able to help people outside of the university, too.

I really enjoyed the course, Karen and Helen were excellent and due to their application and how they presented it, I now feel confident that I would be able to support someone in mental distress.

Towards the end it felt very repetitive. Especially when going through the activities it felt like we had to answer every activity with the same ALGEE with never changed throughout. It was a great learning experience and we really enjoyed. But just repetitive.

The course and the instructor, Julie, were both wonderful. Frank and open discussions and conversations presented in a welcoming and supportive environment. I would recommend this course to anyone considering undertaking it, it feels so valuable to have completed. I would perhaps have preferred if the webinars were split over 3 sessions instead of 2. I know the structure may not allow for this, but given the intensity of the subject I personally found (even with breaks) 3.5 hours too long in one sitting to allow for parity of concentration throughout. Also, I'd like to note that it may be an idea to allow participants to have prior knowledge of who is undertaking the course with them, as it may not always be suitable or comfortable to share as much as this course invites you to depending on who is involve. Thank you to Julie and to all who help deliver this vital training.
