AI summary of reviews

Consistently knowledgeable, patient and engaging trainers are the provider’s clearest strength, making complex theory accessible through humour, real-life examples, discussion and hands-on practice. Attendees value the safe, supportive atmosphere, clear explanations, thoughtful adaptations and opportunities to ask questions and repeat techniques until confident. Courses are generally well structured and paced, with useful breaks, and learning transfers directly to workplace practice and everyday situations; a few attendees find some sessions longer or more repetitive than necessary.

Ben and Andy delivered the course flawlessly. They were engaging in their delivery of key theories and open to discussion about relevant experiences from our team and their own. Fantastic, friendly, and efficient in their delivery. I couldn’t have asked for better trainers over these 3 days.

The course was excellent, both Ben and Andy have exceptional knowledge and made the course enjoyable at every stage. I now feel confident to de-escalate situations and in the worst case scenario use physical restraint effectively and safely. Thank you

The training delivered by Sherwood was exceptional from start to finish. The knowledge, experience and confidence of the trainers were evident throughout, and they had a fantastic ability to take what can be a complex and sensitive area of practice and make it relevant, practical and meaningful for staff working directly with children and young people. What stood out most for us was the genuinely child-centred approach. The training was never simply about techniques, procedures or managing behaviour. There was a consistent focus on understanding the child behind the behaviour, recognising communication through behaviour, identifying triggers and responding in a way that protects the young person’s dignity, wellbeing and relationships with the adults supporting them. There was a strong emphasis on prevention and early intervention, helping staff to recognise changes in presentation and respond before situations escalate. The importance of relationships, communication, regulation, de-escalation and adapting the environment to meet individual needs was embedded throughout the training. This aligns incredibly well with our approach as a specialist provision supporting young people with SEMH, ASD, ADHD and associated needs. The trainers were extremely knowledgeable and were able to explain not only what staff should do, but importantly why they should do it. Questions were welcomed and answered thoroughly, with examples that helped staff understand how the learning translates into real situations with young people. We particularly valued the emphasis on ensuring that any intervention is proportionate, necessary and focused on keeping everyone safe, while maintaining the child’s dignity and prioritising their best interests. It was clear throughout that restrictive intervention is not viewed as behaviour management, but as a last resort within a much wider framework of positive, relational and preventative practice. The practical elements were delivered extremely well. Staff were supported to develop confidence while also understanding the significant responsibility that comes with using any physical intervention. The trainers created an environment where staff felt comfortable asking questions, practising techniques and reflecting on their own practice. Another strength was the focus on what happens after an incident. The importance of rebuilding relationships, reflecting on what happened, learning from incidents and considering what could be changed to reduce the likelihood of recurrence reinforced that the ultimate purpose is always to improve outcomes for the young person. As a school, we came away feeling that the training had strengthened not only our staff team's practical skills but our overall culture and understanding of positive behaviour support. Staff were encouraged to look beyond the behaviour and consider the individual young person, their needs, experiences, communication and emotional regulation. Sherwood did not simply deliver a course; they helped reinforce a way of thinking about supporting vulnerable young people that places safety, dignity, relationships and the best interests of the child at the centre of practice. We would highly recommend Sherwood. The quality of the training, depth of knowledge and professionalism of the trainers were outstanding, and their commitment to ensuring practice ultimately benefits the children and young people we support was evident throughout. Thank you to the Sherwood team for an incredibly valuable and worthwhile training experience.
