I feel significantly more prepared for my upcoming tribunal, where I will be appearing as a witness. This training was invaluable, particularly for the practical tips and real-world guidance it offered. Charan was an excellent trainer—personable, clear, and highly engaging. She created a supportive environment that immediately put everyone at ease. During the role play exercises, she focused on highlighting learning opportunities rather than pointing out mistakes, which really helped build confidence. I now feel much more assured in presenting and owning my witness testimony. If I were to suggest one improvement, it would be to include a tax-related case study, as this would feel more directly relevant to HMRC learners. That said, it did not detract from the overall quality of the session or the excellent advice we received under Charan’s guidance.

The course is generally well organised; however, I feel it could be shortened. In particular, the detailed explanations of court structures and courtroom conduct might be more effective if delivered through targeted 1:1 training for colleagues whose cases are likely/known to proceed to court. Additionally, including a wider range of witness statement examples would be beneficial. At a minimum, the current example could be refreshed every three years, so that when the refresher training is due, participants are provided with a new and updated example.

Excellent. Simon Jelf was a brilliant trainer with so many insights that I have pages of notes to take away. I really felt like I walked away from the training having received all of the wisdom he has garnered over his many years of practice. I will be a more confident and effective witness as a result.
