Practical scenario work and repeated use of the ALGEE framework help attendees translate mental health first-aid principles into calm, supportive action. They value knowledgeable, empathetic trainers who create safe, inclusive discussions, maintain a clear pace and encourage learning from peers. The blended modules, videos, handbook and breakout exercises build understanding and confidence that transfers to work and personal situations, although some find the online manual awkward to navigate.

Overall the course was brilliant. It went above my expectations. Dave the course tutor was amazing, his knowledge and delivery was fantastic. His personality shone and he really made the training. Although the content in a lot of areas was eye opening and difficult to hear or read, the presenting of the material and the open discussions and practical tasks made it more easier to understand and respond. Thank you to Dave Brannin.

Great refresher of how to be a First Aider and how to implement AGEE. I do prefer face to face training but the course was not too long and manageable.

I really enjoyed the course and absolutely feel it will benefit me personally and in my occupation. I really value the tutor sharing lived experiences and opportunities for the group to bring in personal discussions to relate the information to real life situations. This course would only be better if it could be delivered in a classroom environment for me, as I prefer to learn in this way. But otherwise I have had a great experience and think the online self study is easy to use.

Really enjoyed this course. Very informative and I learned a lot. Andrew's teaching style was excellent and I felt very comfortable contributing and working with the group as a result. Would recommend to anyone as I think this course teaches very important life skills that translate into every area of work and home life. Thank you.

Hugely important course that should be part of our essential skills, perhaps with an introductory version for schools? User-friendly online version of the course highlighting key points that linked well with the MHFA manual. Nicely broken down into modules allowing time to absorb key learnings. Andrew Dugmore was an excellent and knowledgeable instructor, providing adequate time for conversation, questions and reflection on each topic. Hearing about his personal experience of schizophrenia was also hugely beneficial and helped us understand the subject in more detail and with empathy. From a personal angle, I feel much more informed and confident to be able to approach, assess and assist with people managing various mental health conditions and from the angle of running a social enterprise (lifeseeker.wales) that supports people to manage their mental health, it has provided much food for thought and further fuelled my passion to assist with reducing the stigma that is slowly being broken down thanks to great work like this. Thank you MFHA Wales! Sally Boyton
