The training was split between 2 trainers who had quite different styles but both were knowledgeable and engaging.

Course Content I believe the course content requires a thorough review, update, and quality check. There are spelling mistakes in the course notes, and the book and slides are not aligned. Given that this course aims to simplify the complexities of environmental management for my workforce, the language used in the slides and book does not support this goal. To enhance the course, I recommend the following improvements: 1. Content Review and Quality Check: o Correct spelling mistakes in the course notes. o Ensure alignment between the book and the slides. o Check the content against current IEMA exam questions so that they course notes are supportive and not hindering confidence. 2. Language and Clarity: o Simplify the language used in both the slides and the book to make it more accessible and easier to understand. o Use clear, concise language that supports the goal of simplifying environmental management concepts. 3. Interactivity and Engagement: o Provide facilitators with a variety of slide styles and formats to keep the content engaging. o Use multimedia resources like videos, animations, and infographics to cater to different learning styles. o Incorporate learner-to-learner quizzes to engage participants by having them create their own questions. This helps them understand how exam questions might be formulated. 4. Facilitator Support: o Develop comprehensive facilitator guides that go beyond slides and bullet points, offering detailed instructions and tips for effective delivery. o Include examples, anecdotes, and real-world applications to support facilitators in the moment so they are not having to rely on their own memory all the time to bring the topic to life. 5. Real-World Case Studies: o Incorporate relevant and recent case studies to illustrate the practical application of theoretical concepts. o Facilitate group discussions and problem-solving exercises around these case studies to encourage critical thinking and collaborative learning. 6. Feedback Mechanism: o Implement a system for collecting feedback from learners and facilitators to continuously improve the course content. o Regularly update the course based on feedback and new developments in the field of environmental management. The current slide content does not effectively support facilitators in delivering their best. Simply providing slides filled with bullet points and headlines is not conducive to excellent teaching and learning. There is a lack of variety in the slide styles, which is essential for engaging and effective instruction. The traditional “chalk and talk” method is disengaging and becomes tedious and monotonous over time. By making these changes, the course can become more effective, engaging, and supportive of both learners and facilitators. Feedback for our facilitator I would like to commend our facilitator Gary Tapley for his exceptional efforts in making the online course engaging, despite the limitations of the slide material. He skillfully used challenging questions, breakout groups, and discussions to keep us actively involved and enhance our learning experience. Moreover, he was highly adept at taking on-the-spot feedback, which helped address the discrepancies between the slides and the course notes, as well as the differences between the course notes, quizzes, homework, and the eventual IEMA exam. His ability to adapt and provide justifications in real-time was truly impressive and greatly appreciated. He was also excellent at building relationships with learners he had never met before, managing to create a supportive and interactive environment in such a short period of time. I believe it would have further supported him if there had been a pre-course assessment for the learners. This would have allowed him to understand the experience and baseline knowledge of the audience attending the course. Thank you for your dedication Gary and for making the best out of the available resources to ensure a valuable learning experience for all of us.
