Trainer - Olivia was so good and made a really difficult subject/ topic easier to go through and discuss. Wasn’t as stressful or distressing as other suicide training that I have attended in the past. I really find role play uncomfortable and so the pace, style of the course space for personal reflection was all really helpful.

It was a very well developed and presented workshop. I learnt some important background facts that i was not previously aware of. Also the use of appropriate language. It built up well, how to have a more effective conversation with a person having thoughts of suicide. How it is OK to be direct, and how to build it into a conversation. Many would otherwise hesitate to say the word Suicide. Importantly we were more aware of how important it was to increase social contact for the person contemplating suicide, so they feel more support from people they feel confident about.

I’m so so glad I decided to sign up for this course. Nyana and Madhuri very kindly made it possible for me to attend the course online due to my illness. They balanced and handled the hybrid mode so well just in terms of checking in on us and making sure we felt involved and engaged. The entire two days went by so fast and we learned so much and were able to translate our learnings during the role play (even though it was hard). The entire course was such a great learning experience and made me introspect and realise that it’s so important to just listen to clients even though it may take a few sessions and even though instinctively we might want to offer strategies to them. Thanks to this course I’ve realised that listening is just so important regardless of the case at hand and that it’s definitely something I need to work on. Also just keeping yourself in check of whether you’re in suicide first aid mode or therapist mode and bringing yourself back to being in SFA mode.

First time we have had this training and will certainly add to the regular training the staff receive - works very well alongside the MHFA training - staff will feel prepared and supported
