The daunting, taboo-laden topic of suicide has been brought into the light. This course entails lots of discussion surrounding what language to use, how to ask the suicide question, and what steps to take next; all conveyed in an easily digestible, articulate manner.

Can not say enough on how informative the course was and the tutor was an expert at putting everyone at ease. Tutor had a fantastic knowledge on the subject.

Liked the emphasis on investing in my own emotional capital when I am well in prep for times when I am not so well. Felt the analogy of the squirrel was very apt in demonstrating the importance of this.

I found the training really good to refresh things I was already using and putting into practice. However being on line is not as useful as face-to-face. I feel if this was a new course for someone who has never done assist before that there would need to be more chances for application and role play. Even though they are difficult but are a a really useful learning tool. But the videos were also very helpful. I would have liked a bit more time for discussion but time was limited. However in the allocated it was a very good course and well presented. Thankyou

This course was absolutely brilliant, and I honestly feel it should be delivered to everyone - from Joe Bloggs to those especially within the police, GPs, emergency services and A&E staff, to help them really understand what it feels like when someone has suicidal thoughts and why, and the difference someone's time and conversation could make. I really cant stress enough how brilliant this course has been. I've had suicidal training through my own work and it has come nowhere close to this - its usually been a 'listen and get them the right help when needed' and you often feel like you just need to get them mental health support as you're not trained to help them. Now, I feel better equipped to provide that intervention rather than just picking up the phone (it's like learning how to do CPR until the ambulance arrives). Its really its given me a confidence and a solution to go further than just listening, and to not feel so helpless when you're with someone who tells you they want to take their life. We can all throw the life jacket!
