Practical scenario work and repeated use of the ALGEE framework help attendees translate mental health first-aid principles into calm, supportive action. They value knowledgeable, empathetic trainers who create safe, inclusive discussions, maintain a clear pace and encourage learning from peers. The blended modules, videos, handbook and breakout exercises build understanding and confidence that transfers to work and personal situations, although some find the online manual awkward to navigate.

PAUL WAS GREAT AND ENCOURAGED OPEN CONVERSATION AND INPUT FROM EVERYONE THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF DAY. EXERCISES AND BREAKOUT ROOMS WERE VERY EFFECTIVE AND HELPED PARTICIPANTS TO SHARE PROFESSIONAL INSIGHT AND EXPEREINCES. LAST TWO MODULES WERE EXTREMLY HELPFUL WHEN ADDRESSING PSYCHOSIS AND SUBSTANCE MISUSE

I really enjoyed the video case studies. It brought to life the dos and don'ts of handling a crisis. I would have enjoyed watching more. I also think this course would have been even more beneficial in-person. Collaboration and sharing key experiences would be easier in-person rather than over Zoom. We'd be able to form stronger relationships also.

A great powerful and impacting course on ones emotions and wellbeing overall. It gave me time and space both on the modules and in the groups to explore my own thoughts and experiences with adult mental health situations and has made me feel more confident in my previous approaches and new ones learnt. John was realistic, open and welcoming to us all and seemed to value the stories we shared and enthusiasm in our group.

I learned so much, especially the importance of applying ALGEE properly. Previously I would have used inappropriate terms and references, such as "you are not going to do something silly are you". The understanding of the different symptoms and the effect various mental health issues can have on people has now put me in a much more confident position when approaching someone who is potentially in need of assistance. An Excellent course.

John was an incredibly interesting man, he made the course very enjoyable. If I had more time I would have continued however I am on a tight work schedule now so I am unable to do so. I have enjoyed this course and do feel better able to assist in situations that I would not have been able to do previously
