The workshop was a highly positive and insightful experience that deepened my understanding of how to view environments from an animal’s perspective. I especially valued learning how to design appropriate, species-specific habitats that support natural behaviors and overall well-being. The only drawback was that we didn’t have enough time to visit back-of-house areas to observe and discuss animal behavior and environments in real time, which would have added valuable real-life context.
The entire workshop session conducted by Sabrian Brando demonstrated profound knowledge and a captivating speech that culminated in significant learning and new values to consider in animal care. I feel this is something that needs to be addressed more in all parks with animals. Therefore, keep up the great work!
The combination of theoretical concepts, such as the 24/7 approach to animal welfare, and work with zoo professionals made the session particularly valuable. The discussions provided useful insights into current practices and challenges in promoting optimal animal welfare in zoological environments.
Sabrina's words challenged my at every moment to think for myself about things and concepts I thought I knew. It may be challenging, it may even be conflicting or uncomfortable at times, but it is also essential that we continuously do this as individuals, teams and institutions.
