In order for Mary-Ann to deliver the Moving and Handling Practical elements of the course, she had to transport a very heavy mobile hoist. The house is very heavy and awkward to move around and she had to acquire my assistance in removing the hoist from her car and the returning it to her car. We both pulled out backs whilst carrying out this exercise which is ironic as compromised the course’s main principle which is all about safe and effective M & H techniques. Mary-Ann should not have to transport her own mobile hoist or rely on the assistance of others in order for her to set up her teaching equipment. The organisation should be providing her with a dedicated teaching area or facility where this equipment is already set up for teaching purposes. There were no refreshments provided for attendees even a cup of tea. Finally, fir such a big cooperation like NHSP, attendees are not paid for either completing the many hours required their e-learning but also attendance of the 2 day face to face course. One of the basic fundamentals of any organisation or cooperation is to provide their staff not only with essential training to enable employees to be competent and proficient in their job role but also to offer monetary remuneration for attending all training needs. I and the course attendees had taken 2 days out of paid work to attend this course plus incurred travel expenses and to be not be compensated by payment for completing all training, is unfair, unreasonable and unjust.

The training was comprehensive and interactive. I particularly enjoyed it being a small group which focused clearly on the objectives. Some aspects of the two days training did duplicate certain aspects of the NHSP elearning modules. I was disappointed to discover there would be no financial remuneration for attending this mandatory training, particularly in view of recently completing all 22 elearning modules also with no financial remuneration. This totals approximately 2.5 weeks of my own time in order to meet NHSP compliance without pay. Due to the national shortage of nurses, recruitment and retention issues, I consider pay to be a reasonable expectation for NHSP employees. A buffet lunch, biscuits, pastries and refreshments should be provided during the course, as a gesture of good will and to reflect the value/ welcome new NHSP staff. From a health and safety perspective, the female trainer should not be required to move, and carry a heavy hoist from her vehicle to the venue due to risk of injury, back strain. The venue was accessible with good parking. The heating became more effective as time went on.

Course was fine could have been better if it was face to face for practice and giving confidence
