About this course
The MBSR course is an 8-week course that uses meditation and yoga to reduce stress and improve mental health, supported by robust clinical research.
The course is designed for people who wish to transform some area of their life, whether this is simply to have time to pause and relax, or to reduce anxiety, depression or other mental health challenges. Mindful Surrey offer the latest version of the well-established 8-week MBSR course, taught all over the world. The course includes eight weekly, two-hour sessions, a 5-hour retreat day, all course materials, pre-course telephone interview, optional online drop-in sessions and supporting calls/emails for the duration of the course.
Each class has a different focus, and includes meditations (seated in a chair or lying down), simple yoga-style movements, and discussion. Home practice is set each week, which includes practising the meditations and other short exercises. To get the most from the MBSR course, it is important to be able to devote 20-30 minutes to daily practice.
We run the MBSR course online as well as in-person, in Surrey and Sussex.
Mindfulness meditation, through techniques such as focused breathing and exploring sensations in the body, has been clinically shown to reduce anxiety by up to 30%, enhance emotional resilience and improve sleep, according to recent studies (eg, Smith et al., 2023).

I have done a number of different mindfulness sessions with Catherine including the MBSR course and have fully enjoyed all of them. These courses have given me the tools to navigate my way through times of anxiety and stress and also the capability to 'switch off' and enjoy being in the present which I often forget to do. I would thoroughly recommend doing a course with Catherine.
I had a wonderful experience learning from Catherine. Her course was delivered with such warmth, clarity, and genuine care that it made understanding MBSR feel both accessible and enjoyable. Catherine has a very calming and supportive teaching style, which created a safe space to explore mindfulness and build a regular practice. The way she explains concepts is simple yet meaningful, making it easy to apply them in everyday life. The guided meditations were especially helpful- they allowed me to truly experience the practice rather than just learn about it. I now feel much more confident in my understanding of MBSR and motivated to continue practicing. The retreat day at the end of the course was especially valuable- a real, immersive practice that helped deepen my experience of mindfulness in a very meaningful way. I’m very grateful for the experience and would highly recommend Catherine’s course to anyone looking to start or deepen their mindfulness journey.
Catherine is a compassionate and caring teacher. She delivered the course extremely well through the online sessions and printed workbook. It was a supportive non-judgemental space to learn, share and practice mindfulness including the guided meditations. It has given me the tools to bring more kindness and gratitude into my life and to notice when I am being judgemental. I would highly recommend this mindfulness course and Catherine.
