About this course

The Lantra Chainsaw Maintenance course is a two-day, hands-on training program designed to equip learners with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to safely operate, maintain, and perform cross-cutting with a chainsaw, leading towards the Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting.

What you will learn

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify and use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly, reporting on its condition and locating standard marks.
  • Recognize required health and safety features on a chainsaw.
  • Prepare a chainsaw with the correct fuel/oil mix and chain lubrication.
  • Start a chainsaw from both cold and hot safely.
  • Conduct pre-cutting safety tests and manage faults if they occur.
  • Identify hazards, plan site safety, and organize operational procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Detect faults or defects in chainsaws and decide whether professional servicing is needed.
  • Select and maintain the correct tools for chainsaw maintenance. Perform all routine maintenance following manufacturer instructions or Lantra Awards guidelines.
