About this course
The Lantra Chainsaw Maintenance and Cross-cutting course is a two-day, hands-on training program that equips learners with practical skills, safety knowledge, and the opportunity to gain a Level 2 Award demonstrating competence in chainsaw operation and timber cross-cutting.
What you will learn
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
- Identify and wear the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and understand its maintenance.
- Recognize health and safety features on chainsaws and prepare the chainsaw with the correct fuel/oil mix and chain lubrication.
- Perform pre-use and pre-cutting tests, and respond appropriately if equipment fails safety checks.
- Start and operate a chainsaw safely, both from cold and warm starts.
- Conduct accurate cross-cutting of timber following safe operational procedures.
- Detect faults, identify defects, and perform routine maintenance according to the manufacturer’s instructions or the Lantra Awards workbook.
- Organize site safety, assess hazards, and follow legal and HSE-compliant protocols.
