About this course

Allergen Awareness courses aim to educate participants about how the immune system reacts to normally harmless substances, leading to allergic reactions. They cover the distinctions between general allergies, food allergies, and food intolerances, highlighting key contributing factors, such as genetic predisposition and environmental triggers.

Typically, the course is structured into nine modules, each requiring a minimum passing score of 70%

What you will learn

Participants will gain knowledge and skills to:

  • Recognize the causes and symptoms of allergies and intolerances.
  • Understand UK laws and regulations regarding food allergens.
  • Identify and mitigate allergen risks in various environments, particularly in food service, catering, healthcare, and workplaces.
  • Apply practical measures to reduce risk, including safe food handling, labeling, cross-contamination prevention, and internal/external monitoring of control measures.
  • Communicate allergen information effectively to consumers and colleagues, ensuring safety and compliance.
