About this course

The Adult MHFA course is an internationally recognised, evidence-based programme approved by MHFA England and the Royal Society for Public Health. It is designed for anyone wishing to become a certified Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider) and gain confidence in supporting people experiencing mental health issues.

Completion enables participants to join the MHFAider community, gaining access to ongoing support and resources, including the MHFAider Support App

What you will learn

In this course participants learn to identify early warning signs, respond appropriately, and signpost individuals to professional services, this includes learning:

  • Introduction to Mental Health First Aid and the MHFAider role.
  • Understanding common mental health conditions: stress, anxiety, depression, psychosis, suicidal thoughts, and substance misuse.
  • Crisis first aid and supporting recovery.
  • Cultural influences on mental health.
  • Developing and applying a Mental Health action Plan (ALGEE®).
  • Active listening, empathy, and effective communication.
  • Self-care strategies for maintaining personal wellbeing.
