Description
This course is designed as a follow-on from our RRN level 1 training. It is aimed at developing awareness and understanding of how to respond in potentially risky situation through the use of de-escalation skills. Each course is led by an experienced practioner in the field of health and social care. This course also meets the standards for Secondary Stragies as defined in the RRN Training Standards 2019 (v1.2)
What you will learn
This session will be 3 and a half hours in duration and cover de-escalation skills. This session will cover the learning outcomes and objectives. By the end of the session the learner will be able to:
• Understand that all behaviour happens for a reason and give examples
• Highlight the key stages of the Arousal Model
• Define and recognise setting events and triggers
• Define and recognise cues or ‘warning signs’
• Give examples of behaviours of concern/behaviours that challenge
• Understand what is meant by de-escalation
• Learn the key points of the Low Arousal Approach (STEPS) as a means of de-escalation
• Define and describe diversion/distraction skills and techniques
• Understand the key elements of post-incident support
• Understand when and where to access further support
