About the Course
This CPD explores the basics and some of the more challenging aspects of ethical practice.
By attending this course, you will:
increase your understanding of your responsibilities as a therapist in terms of legal and ethical issues,
increase your awareness of potential dilemmas,
gain confidence in dealing with issues of an ethical and professional manner.
What you will learn
This module will help you to understand:
What is ‘ethics’ and why do we need it?
What are the key principles of ethical practice and how does that work with SFH?
What are the therapist’s responsibilities to the client?
E.g. the therapeutic relationship, consent, risk assessment, safeguarding, discrimination, confidentiality, data protection, contracts
What are the therapist’s other responsibilities?
E.g. supervision, record keeping, self-care, professional development
The course content will refer to Ethics and the Law, and to professional codes of conduct provided by various bodies such as AfSFH, NCH, CNHC.
The course will include group discussions around potential ethical dilemmas and how to respond to them.
Research and legal references and recommendations for further reading will be provided where appropriate.
