Advanced Tool Kit for Experienced Social Workers - Day 1 & 2

Description

The course has been designed to update and refresh experienced social workers of their statutory responsibilities. The course will revisit best practice in being able to correctly identify the signs for early intervention to enable the correct risk assessment to be completed, giving delegates the confidence to undertake investigations and assessments to best practice in order to adequately safeguard and protect all children.

Delegates will explore and revisit the relevant legislation relating to children, including the new Domestic Abuse Act 2021, the impact of Human Rights Act 1998, and the impending Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) for those children aged 16 and over who may be deprived of their liberty in response to their complex needs and/ or behaviour.

Delegates will explore how successful they are at making the best use of the Public Law Outline (PLO), within their local authority and teams, by reviewing the requirements for front loading, the pre-proceedings outline and the different stages within the family court process, including all the appropriate options for permanence.

The course will also explore the impact of Covid and national lockdowns for social work practitioners and the children they care for. Delegates will revisit how to produce well structured, court compliant statements (either in their own right, or supporting and guiding NQSWs).

They will explore current best practice in note taking and record keeping, guidance on the court’s requirements for both Section 7 and Section 37 reports and how best to draft SWETs and care plans.

Finally, in the afternoon of the second day, there will be a mock court hearing where a number of delegates will be cross-examined in a refresher session on Courtroom Skills including best practice in both face-to-face and virtual hearings.

• Evaluate a social work care plan that truly reflects a child’s needs and the risks around them
• Enhance their conclusion or recommendation by linking it to their with factual evidence in the case via persuasive analysis
• Outline how witness familiarisation assists with presenting a case to a judge with confidence
