About this course

The Associate Tutor Training Development Programme® is a 5-day course, which on completion qualifies you as a Suicide First Aid® SFA Associate Tutor with a licence to deliver our two core programmes:

Suicide First Aid® and Suicide First Aid Lite®

This Tutor training programme is delivered by a team of experienced SFA National Tutors. During the 4 day course, you will focus on learning the SFA programme materials, delivery methodology and suicide prevention knowledge, and work to deepen your understanding of the SFA learning outcomes.

Our open Tutor training programmes are delivered virtually via Zoom, in house programmes can be delivered face-to-face when there are 4 plus delegates.

Upon completion of these 4 days, you will then need to complete three elements to become signed off as an Associate Tutor (AT) which includes the following:

  1. Royal Society of Public Health (RSPH) Level 4 Award in Suicide First Aid®
  2. City and Guilds Reflective Journal Assignment of your four days on the programme
  3. First delivery of a SFA course observed by a National Tutor (we refer to this as a ‘Day 5 Delivery’)

What you will learn

Our Associate Tutor Training Development Programme equips Learners with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to deliver accredited Suicide First Aid training.

Learners will:

  • Gain a deep understanding of suicide prevention theory, evidence, and practice.
  • Develop the skills to teach and facilitate the programmes around suicide, safely
  • Learn how to apply a trauma-informed approach to training delivery.
  • Build competence in assessing learner needs and supporting safe participation.
  • Practice delivering core elements of the Suicide First Aid: Understanding Suicide Intervention (SFA:USI) and Lite programmes.
  • Explore effective methods for managing group dynamics and safeguarding learner wellbeing.
  • Receive feedback and mentoring to refine their training style and confidence.

By the end of the programme, Learners are ready to begin delivering Suicide First Aid courses, contributing to suicide prevention through high-quality, safe, and impactful learning experiences.
