Learn Portuguese: Marlow Language Centre offers a range of Portuguese courses from beginner level to upper-intermediate, for adults and children. Whether it’s for business, for pleasure, for relocation, or to pass an exam, we can help you choose the right Portuguese course. During Spring term 2019 we’re running group Portuguese lessons at beginner, false beginner as well as per-intermediate levels; and we also offer one-to-one or one-to-two tuition if you prefer a more intensive and personalised approach.
Our group courses contain all elements of the language: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The course will focus on building your conversational skills as well as developing your listening skills and knowledge of grammar.
With Portuguese you’ll be able to communicate with lots of people – not only in Portugal. Portuguese is the native language of 220 million people, and an estimated 260 million people speak Portuguese as their first or second language. It’s the sole official language of Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau and São Tomé and Príncipe, and has co-official status in many other territories.
Portuguese is related to other popular languages. It's a part of the Ibero-Romance group of languages, and it has a lot in common with French, Italian, Spanish and other Latin-based languages. So if you already know one of these languages, Portuguese will be easier for you. And if you don’t, then knowing some Portuguese can help you learn these other languages later.
Portuguese is one of the top-ranking world languages. It's generally held to be the fifth-most spoken language in the world, and it’s the world’s third most-spoken European language.
