Description
Are you operating from a constant cycle of ‘doing all of the things, all of the time (with no time!)’ and burning out because of it?
A rescue, shelter or sanctuary is non-stop. You’ve got conflicting demands to deal with, limited resources and a to-do list that never ends.
So how do you make time to care for you in all of that? How can you balance the wellbeing of animals who are residents with those needing emergency care? And what on earth might help take the pressure off?
Life doesn’t need to feel like an endless cycle of firefighting that leaves you feeling exhausted.
This training is specific to a rescue, shelter or sanctuary setting. Sessions are tailored to you so that you walk away with clarity and confidence to improve things for yourself and the animals in your care.
What you will learn
What you can cover (choose your topics):
Empathic strain: Your ability to relate to others can be negatively affected due to prolonged stress, constant change and exposure to challenging situations. Learn to recognise signs and symptoms of empathic strain, including a check-in process and warning system to track depletion and implement preventative strategies.
Healthy habits and boundaries: everyone says you need them but how do you assess, set and maintain healthy boundaries? Explore boundaries and how they relate to habits and energy management.
Compassion awareness: Our experiences caring for animals can range from joys to sorrows; cover techniques, terminology and the importance of compassion for ourselves and each other.
Animal welfare and wellbeing 24/7: balance conflicting priorities and challenging circumstances to give animals the best possible experiences, even when you’re not there giving direct care. Topics can also include animal behaviour, welfare assessments, enclosures, enrichment, quality of life, end-of-life and more.
Human education and communication: frustrated with saying the same thing over and over? Or not sure how to ‘make people listen' or take your advice? Get an introduction to human behaviour so that you can help more animals by having constructive conversations.
Individual, team and organisational wellbeing: explore sustainable ways of working together for a purpose so that everyone feels heard, respected and supported in teams of any size.
