About this course
This course is designed around the SHAPE format and is aimed specifically at Keepers and Animal Caretakers working with captive species. Instructors will guide participants through a process that will allow them to develop more holistic and goal oriented enrichment programs. The course is roughly split between lecture and practical components.
To keep course costs down, delegates are required to provide their own lunches and can either bring their own or purchase food from the on-site catering facilities.
What you will learn
Lecture topics include: Animal welfare, an overview of enrichment, including the framework, safety and evaluation. Depending on location the practical components of the workshop can include behavioral problem solving, rope splicing and fire hose weaving workshops. All workshops end in the application of all the taught principles as participants are split into groups, allowing the opportunity to design, build and test enrichment with the facilities animals. Please note you must be 18 or over to attend this course.

Had an absolutely fantastic time and learnt more than I could have imagined! Since returning to work I have so much more motivation and excitement for enriching the animals lives.. I’ve taught all my colleges how to spice rope and they all think they’re super heroes now, I’ve added loads of new equipment and ideas to our wishlist and even approved getting a few things bought by the bosses. Cannot thank you guys enough for your knowledge and inspiration!
