Description
The aim of this training is to increase the knowledge of the principles
and practice of the safe handling and administration of medicinal products, in general and in particular with regards to an Epi Pen.
The course content will reflect the level of training required by the trainees and will incorporate organisational policies and procedures.
An auto - injector is prescribed for and given to individuals having had a history of systemic allergic reactions towards insect stings, foods or medication. For insect stings the device should be provided until the patient has finished venom immunotherapy – the only treatment for insect sting induced allergies. For other allergic emergencies the individual needs to carry an auto - injector for the rest of his/her life. Staff working in a variety of settings may need specific training to recognize anaphylaxis reactions and to treat under the prescriptive authority of a Medical Doctor.
As per the advice given by UK Resuscitation Council in “Emergency Treatment of Anaphylactic Reactions – Guidelines for Healthcare Providers” 2012 & 2015, Health Matters follow the guidelines strictly. Individuals who attend our training are shown how to use an auto injector and they are also given the opportunity to practice using a training device.
