About this course
This half day training will assist staff to identify restrictions in a person’s care, in order to examine whether the care is the ‘least restrictive’ possible in line with the European Convention on Human Rights, the United Nations Convention on Rights for People with Disabilities and the Irish Constitution. It is underpinned by the HIQA Guidance for Restrictive Practices in Designated Centres for Older People and Disabilities 2023.
What you will learn
The session will fully explore human rights for all individuals as expressed in the UNCHR, the Irish Constitution and the UNCRPD.
There will be discussion on how rights are protected through various legislative frameworks followed by case scenarios where attendees work ethically through each.
‘Positive risk taking’ and residents / service users rights to make what may be deemed an ‘unwise choice’ will also be included.
